2017 Red Deer home sales behind still.

real estate sales slump

Home sales were down again in May this year. There were 156 units sold in Red Deer May 2016, and only 126 this year. Central Alberta as a whole witnessed sales down only 6% in May.

Red Deer sales have been slower for the last two years but the effect might no be as drastic as it seems. What we may have experience prior to now was a exceptional real estate market. Right now we are seeing a slower market it but it may be closer to what should be considered normal.

Here are some sales numbers from towns surrounding Red Deer. Some towns are seeing nice improvements.

Blackfalds (18 in 2016)  27 in 2017  (+33%)

Lacombe (18 in 2016)  24 in 2017 (+33%)

Sylvan Lake (26 in 2016)  23 in 2017 (-11.6%)

Innisfail (11 in 2016)  11 in 2017 (same)

Penhold (7 in 2016)  4 in 2017 (-43%)

Stettler (5 in 2016)  9 in 2017 (+80%)
