For the third month in a row Red Deer has had higher real estate sale numbers than the year prior. That hasn’t happened since early to mid 2014. Does this indicate we will see the real estate market continually improve in Central Alberta? We should see improvement even if only gradual. Red Deer home sales were up 30% in Dec, 40% in January and 12% in February.
I compared some close-by Central Alberta towns but they aren’t faring quite as well as Red Deer is with increased sales. Blackfalds, Ab was equal to 12 months prior in Dec and Jan but witnessed much lower sales in February. Lacombe, Ab had lower sales in Dec and Jan. but saw a 50% in Feb. Sylvan Lake, Ab has witness slower sales in each of the last 3 months and Innisfail, Ab saw a very large increase in Dec but sales equal to a last year in Jan. and Feb.
Smaller town’s stats are less reliable because fewer homes sell there. Sales differences of one or two appear more substantial than they are. If Red Deer, Ab does continue to trend positively the smaller towns will follow as prices there become more attractive.
I’ll post March stats at the start of April to see if sales can increase four months straight.
